"There's nothing that symbolizes my adopted hometown of Boston more than the Red Sox and Fenway Park. Forest promised me he wouldn't have an accident in all that grass."

Description

Home to the likes of Cy Young, Babe Ruth, Ted Williams and Carl Yastrzemski, Fenway Park itself has captivated baseball fans since its opening day on April 20, 1912.

In 1904, Boston Globe owner Henry Taylor bought Boston's baseball team, the Boston Pilgrims. He changed the team's name to the Boston Red Sox and by 1910 announced the building of a brand new ball park named for its location near the Fenway area of the city.

The Boston Red Sox beat the New York Islanders (later the Yankees) 7-6 in 11 innings to the delight of the 27,000 fans in attendance.
